The effect of psychodrama on the empathy faculty of the emplyees working at a health institution

Author: Barış Tok  Psychologist

Summary

The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the effect of psychodrama group therapy techniques on
the empathy faculty of the people working at the same workplace and sector.
The study population consists of 19 volunteers (6 male, 13 female) working at the Bakırkoy
Social Health Center and affiliated units. Sixteen therapy sessions of 90 minutes were performed.

Empathic Skill Scale-B Form was implemented before the first and after the last session.
Although there was an increase in the average Empathic Skill Scale-B Form scores, the
increase was not statistically significant.
The results suggest that psychodrama method might have positive influence on interpersonal relationships, revision of interfamily relationships and empathic skills. Particularly spontaneity and the experience of living the others during role plays seem to improve empathic skills. We think that further studies with larger groups and for longer periods are required to determine the effect psychodrama on empathic skills.
