Psychodrama and grouptherapy with woman with vaginismus

Summary

This psychodrama group therapy theses was done at  Istanbul University, Medical School, Department of Psychiatry in 1997-1998 with vaginismus patients.

Despite the high degree of agreement concerning treatment approach, and the high reported incidence of success generally found, treatment is not always effective for all women with vaginismus(24,25,26). In this  study we combined psychodrama group therapy with sex therapy techniques in two groups consisting of eleven and thirteen vaginismic patients. Besides the removal of the symptom, psychodrama helped these patients in comprehention, clarification and forgiveness of themselves and their couple relations(35).

The common sex therapy method is  couple therapy. Here the chosen method was group therapy and psychodrama in homogeneous women’s group.    Yalom’s curative factors became to be  more apparent and functional with psychodrama treatment in patients with vaginismus.
